Premier League football club Leeds United has paired up with online money transfer provider Skrill as part of a new marketing partnership.
According to reports, Leeds United has offered Skrill the chance to become one of the club’s official partners.
As a result, Skrill will now be offered as a payment method choice on the website of the Leeds United shop.
Skrill’s brand signage will be displayed at Elland Road, the home of the club.
This was scheduled to begin as early as last weekend, with the home game against Chelsea expected to have been the first time that the branding was displayed.
The relationship will also have a content dimension.
Skrill is said to be ready to provide entertainment content for followers of the club to watch.
In a statement to the press, a spokesperson for Leeds United said that the club was “delighted” about the move and the prospects it offered.
Andrea Radrizzani, who serves as the club’s chairman, said that the two firms were examples of dynamism in the football field and the payments world.
“We are delighted that Skrill is joining us as a partner,” he said.
“Both Skrill and Leeds United are dynamic forces in our respective industries, challenging the status quo and going through a particularly exciting time in our journey.”
He added that both companies had long lists of followers – and that the new pairing would give something back to these communities.
“Both of our brands have a strong and loyal fan base in the UK and internationally, and we look forward to rewarding our fans through this partnership,” he said.
For Skrill’s part, a senior figure there said that the time for the new pairing was just right.
Lorenzo Pellegrino, who is the brand’s chief executive officer, pointed out that the expected move back towards in-person fan culture was an important consideration.
“With the eagerly anticipated return of fan presence at football stadiums and the incredible season which Leeds United is having, I can’t think of a more exciting time for Skrill to be entering into this partnership,” he said.
“We already know from our football partnerships that fans enjoy the benefits of Skrill and that our service is very relevant to them.”
Skrill was founded in 2001 and its multi-currency e-wallet offer is now well known across the world.
