NALA, an online money transfer organization in Tanzania, has announced that it will collaborate with a pan-African payments firm.
The company said that it had made the connection with Cellulant.
The goal of the new pairing is to help move payments from Western nations such as the US and the UK into various African nations, including Tanzania, Ghana, Rwanda, Kenya and Uganda.
It is understood that the aim of the new pairing is to ensure that international payments into the countries are friction-free.
It is also believed that it will reduce the cost of sending cash abroad from the US and the UK into Africa.
In a statement, a senior figure at NALA said that there were high price levels in the region currently.
Nicolai Eddy, who serves as chief operating officer, said that it was high by global standards.
“Today, Sub-Saharan Africa is the most expensive region to transfer money into,” he said.
He went on to say that there was a real opportunity to improve this throughout Africa and to create a system that was fit for the future.
“In Tanzania and across the African continent, there is a huge opportunity to harness technology to reduce payment fees and build next-generation payment and banking products.”
“At NALA, we’ve built a completely digital platform for individuals and businesses based in the UK and US to send money to their friends, family, and employees in Africa,” he said.
He also praised Cellulant, his firm’s new partner, on the grounds that it has a lot of expertise.
“Cellulant is one of the early payment pioneers on the continent, and we chose to partner with them because of their deep expertise in the space and their strong technical capabilities,” he said in remarks to the press.
