  • A major provider of digital commerce and payment solutions, CellPoint Digital, has struck a new deal with a gaming ecommerce platform, MTC Game.
  • The arrangement is set to focus on the African market, followed by a potential expansion to other regions around the world in the future.
  • “By partnering with MTC Game, we are helping our new partner with its expansion plans. The video game sector has always felt like a natural extension of our success in the gambling and retail industries, and we are excited to disrupt payments in this dynamic vertical,” said a spokesperson for CellPoint Digital.

CellPoint Digital, a major provider of digital commerce and payment solutions, has struck a new deal with gaming ecommerce platform MTC Game.

MTC Game, which is a global retailer, offers digitalised services to people playing video games.

The new arrangement will see MTC Game use the cross-border payment orchestration system offered by CellPoint Digital.

At present, the arrangement will initially be available to users in Africa – but there are plans for it to move further afield in the future.

Using CellPoint Digital’s platform, MTC Game will be able to offer users a friction-free checkout, which permits popular payment methods in Africa such as mobile money and bank transfers.

The business development manager at MTC Game gave an overview of the context of the new deal.

Sinan Bağ pointed out that the video game sector was one of the world’s biggest, and that players existed everywhere.

“The video game industry is one of the largest media sectors in the world, with gamers in every market,” he said.

He went on to say that the company was “excited” about the prospect of boosting the payment offering for players in certain regions.

“We are excited to expand our payment offering for customers in Africa as we know it will give players in the region more seamless access to the games they want to enjoy,” he explained.

For CellPoint Digital, meanwhile, the chief executive officer said that it was essential that sellers were able to pay with more than just their local currencies.

Kristian Gjerding explained that there should be many options available.

“In regions like Africa, where video game consoles from all three major markets can be found, it is pivotal for sellers to let their consumers pay with currencies and methods beyond their local options,” he said.

He also said that the new partnership would allow the partner firm to boost its expansion intentions.

“By partnering with MTC Game, we are helping our new partner with its expansion plans. The video game sector has always felt like a natural extension of our success in the gambling and retail industries, and we are excited to disrupt payments in this dynamic vertical,” he explained.
