- The World Economic Forum (WEF) has announced that a firm in the payments space has been awarded its ‘Technology Pioneer’ status.
- EMQ, a global payments system enabling instant money transfers, has been told that its chief executive officer can participate in WEF events as a result of the new status.
- “EMQ’s mission is to increase the accessibility and affordability of financial services globally, and we are honored to be recognized as a pioneer by the World Economic Forum,” said a senior EMQ representative.
The World Economic Forum (WEF) has given EMQ, an international money transfer and payments network, a major award.
EMQ received the ‘Technology Pioneer’ designation, meaning that it has been recognised by the WEF as a leading early-to-growth-stage business that uses innovative technology.
The move will mean that the chief executive officer and co-founder of EMQ, Max Liu, will now receive invitations to WEF events and plans.
EMQ will also be asked to give its views on how to work against major issues facing both the sector and the world at large.
EMQ is known in the sector for its work across different geographical areas, including Europe and Africa.
It is also known for its work in North America and the Asia Pacific.
In a statement, Liu explained more about the firm’s mission.
“EMQ’s mission is to increase the accessibility and affordability of financial services globally, and we are honored to be recognized as a pioneer by the World Economic Forum,” he said.
He went on to say that there were still challenges in the payments sector despite the fact that progress had been made in recent years.
“While we have witnessed a rapid transformation across the payments ecosystem in recent years, full access to financial services continues to be a global challenge,” he said.
He also explained that the strategy of the firm was all about putting together payments infrastructure on a local level.
“At EMQ, our strategy remains focused on building payments infrastructure that simplify and lower the cost of making everyday payments, in addition to fostering more inclusive and sustainable economies,” he said.
For the WEF, meanwhile, the community lead for Technology Pioneers said that the pioneers represented people from a variety of industries that were vital for problem solving in the wider world.
“EMQ and its fellow pioneers are at the forefront of industries that are critical to solving some of our world’s most complex issues today,” said Saemoon Yoon.
“We look forward to their contribution to the World Economic Forum in its commitment to improving the state of the world,” he added.
