  • Remittance giant Western Union has 200 vacancies in its Costa Rica office, a piece of news that it announced today
  • Bilinguals are needed in certain positions, according to WU executives
  • The company has over 1,000 employees in the country

One of the world’s leading money transfer brands announced that it is looking to fill 200 vacant positions in its Costa Rica Office. According to Western Union, it wants to strengthen its operations centre in the country. The remittance company started operations in Costa Rica in the year 1998 and only hired 35 people at the time. Today, their numbers are now over 1,300 and they need 200 more. There are administrative, operational, and technical positions that are vacant.

In today’s announcement, the remittance giant said that they are in need of people in Finance, Support, Technology, Accounting, Development, Infrastructure and Data Analysis. Interested parties must have a high school diploma and must speak English fluently. Certain positions require a good command of other languages apart from English. This includes Mandarin, Arabic, German, Portuguese and French.

With migrant populations now totalling into the hundreds of millions, more people now transfer money internationally on a regular basis. In fact, global remittances have continued to grow in the past few years save for a few hiccups caused by recent economic downturns. The year 2019 is predicted to be a bad year for remittances as experts are expecting major economic changes in countries with large migrant populations.

Due to the diversity of individuals who use Western Union’s services, bilingual employees are much needed. Western Union’s success in the remittance industry is not only due to its attention to details like these, observers note. The brand is also known for its affordable overseas transfer rates.

The selection process will be carried out at the CINDE Job Fair in Costa Rica. The job fair began today, reports say and it will end on 24th February.

“The diversity and richness of Costa Rican human talent have been a key element in the consolidation of the regional operations center of Western Union in Costa Rica, 20 years after its establishment. For Western Union, CINDE Job Fair is the platform that connects our collaborators and leaders with the greatest diversity of talent in Costa Rica, in whose event we attract and select talented individuals who will make a difference in the results of our operation”, said Roberto Golcher, Western Union’s Regional Manager of Acquisition of Talent – LATAM.

It is the job fair’s 14th edition and deemed as “the most important multilingual fair in the country”.

“This initiative developed by CINDE has achieved over the years to gather more than 100,000 people in its 14 editions, all with a view to bringing in one place the best companies to work for and the best Costa Rican talent looking for quality work options”, said Jorge Sequeira, CINDE’s General Director.
