- Electricity, water and other utilities are available for those abroad in North America and Europe to pay remotely
- New partnership with Paymaster, a domestic Jamaican company, will facilitate the new service
- “We are thrilled to be partnering with Xoom, PayPal's international money transfer service and a leader in international digital money transfer technology”, says Paymaster spokesperson
Xoom, a service operated by global online money transfer firm PayPal, has announced that it will partner with a Jamaican bill payments platform.
Paymaster and Xoom will work in partnership to help people located in major economies such as Canada and the United Kingdom to set up bill payments from abroad.
The idea is that those who have family or friends in Jamaica may want to pay their bills for them – and that the collaboration will make that possible.
A whole range of utilities will be eligible for the new scheme, including water and electricity.
Telecoms provision, like internet provision, cable TV and phones of all varieties, will be included.
Other personal bill commitments, such as loan servicing and insurance, will be covered too as part of the new partnership – meaning that a range of different financial commitments fall under the service’s umbrella.
It will be possible for users to sign up to the service online by visiting the official Xoom website – or, alternatively, by using the brand’s smartphone app.
In total, almost 40 European markets will be able to benefit from the service – plus Britain, and the two major North American economies.
In a statement, Julian King – who serves as vice president and general manager at Xoom – said that the firm was “constantly innovating”.
“At Xoom, we're constantly innovating to provide cutting edge money transfer services for our customers across the globe”, he said.
“We're excited to partner with Paymaster to launch our bill payments service to Jamaica, so Jamaicans living abroad have access to a fast, secure and easy way to help family and loved ones pay for life necessities like utilities and mobile phone service.
“Through Xoom, these senders will no longer have to wait in line, fill out forms or pay higher fees to send money back home, and recipients don't need to worry about receiving cash transfers to pay their bills on time”, he added.
On Paymaster’s part, general manager Nicolene Worthy-Donaldson said that the new offer would be a “one-stop international bill payment service”.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with Xoom, PayPal's international money transfer service and a leader in international digital money transfer technology, to offer a one-stop international bill payment service to Jamaica that will provide persons living outside of Jamaica with a convenient, affordable and secure way to pay bills in Jamaica”, she added.
