- Shelly Swanback is hired by Western Union to head up Product and Platform
• She formerly worked at Accenture and has extensive experience in the digital sphere
• “We are inspired by the deep experience she brings to our organization and the integral role she will play in bringing our unique cross-border capabilities to a wider set of consumers and businesses,” said Western Union CEO
A new senior hire at major cross border payments firm Western Union has taken place as part of the firm’s attempts to bolster its global payments capabilities.
Shelly Swanback will serve as President for Product and Platform at the firm, and will be responsible for helping to move the international money transfer platform to new many distinct customer segments.
She will report to the CEO of the firm, Hikmet Ersek, and she will begin in office next month (January 2020).
She formerly worked at Accenture, where she was Group Operating Officer for the division known as Accenture Digital.
She was a part of the team which founded that division some years ago, and she has worked to help ensure it grows.
In a press release, Western Union described Swanback’s role there as helping Accenture Digital’s “clients envision and deliver growth through digital reinvention while concurrently transforming and elevating Accenture’s digital advancement.”
The new hire follows an “Investor Day” at the company, which happened earlier this year.
At that event, senior managers at Western Union demonstrated their new “platform strategy” – and outlined how they intended to make the most of its unusual and innovative international advantage set.
It also used the day to explore ways to meet the higher demand for its products, which are among some of the best recognised in the whole remittances industry.
In a statement, Ersek said that the firm was “inspired” by what she could offer – and outlined the “extensive global search” that took place to find her.
“I am pleased to announce the appointment of Shelly Swanback after an extensive global search,” he said.
“We are inspired by the deep experience she brings to our organization and the integral role she will play in bringing our unique cross-border capabilities to a wider set of consumers and businesses,” he added.
And Swanback herself said that she was “delighted” to be joining the organisation.
“I am delighted to join Western Union, an iconic global brand, and work with its deeply experienced leadership to grow the business and propel its new platform strategy,” she said.
“Western Union’s mission to power a full range of money movement and payment options to serve a broad spectrum of consumers and businesses, through inclusive innovation, make this opportunity especially exciting as the growth and expansion of the Western Union platform will have far reaching benefits for stakeholders across the globe,” she added.
