  • A new partnership between Arab Financial Service (AFS) and Zenji Exchange (ZENJEX) will allow unbanked employees in Bahrain to send money abroad.
  • AFS will use ZENJEX’s services to enhance its popular Wage Protection Scheme (WPS).
  • Employers use the scheme in Bahrain to pay employees digitally and offer other useful financial services.

Unbanked employees in Bahrain will be able to complete international money transfers with their wages for the first time following a landmark partnership between Arab Financial Service (AFS) and Zenji Exchange (ZENJEX).

AFS recently launched Bahrain’s first digital payroll solution, the Wage Protection Scheme (WPS), which allows employers to pay employees without a bank account reliably and effectively.

The system is now being enhanced thanks to a new agreement with Bahrain-based ZENJEX, which will see a number of value-added payment features and services made available to employers.

The most notable of these services is the ability for workers to transfer funds globally, withdraw funds using cash machines, and access POS terminals at home and abroad.

AFS CEO Samer Soliam said the partnership with ZENJEX will “enrich” its WPS offering and help it to reach a wider audience.

He added: "We always partner with strong players in the market to deliver value-added services and attractive, relevant digital payments products that accelerate financial inclusion. I am pleased to partner with Zenj Exchange for this goal.”

Employers in Bahrain have already been using the WPS solution to add wages and benefits to payroll cards using a cutting-edge digital payroll system.

In addition to money transfers and increased cash access, cardholders will also be able to take advantage of new financial services such as accessing interactive dashboards and round-the-clock customer support.

ZENJEX managing director Fatima Hamad said he was “very proud” to support such a strategic national project as the WPS.

He concluded: “We look forward to maximising synergies between the two organisations towards our common goal of product and service excellence.”
