- Western Union, a leading company in the online money transfer world, has confirmed that it will be striking up a new partnership with payments brand SuperGIROS.
- The company’s customers will be able to send and receive money from more than 9,800 additional locations in Colombia.
- “In Colombia and across Latin America we continue to expand our network, offering consumers, more convenience, introducing new services, and allowing them to send money to their families and loved ones across the world,” said a senior spokesperson for Western Union.
Western Union, a major provider in the international money transfer sector, has announced a new partnership on the cross-border payments front.
Western Union said that it will pair up with SuperGIROS, a payments brand that is part of the Acciones y Valores network.
The new arrangement will see SuperGIROS working with Western Union to improve cross-border payments services in Colombia.
Western Union’s payment functions will now be available via the SuperGIROS service in retail locations across the country.
This means that Western Union's money transfer services will now be available at more than 9,800 additional locations, bringing its total number of locations in Colombia to 17,000.
SuperGIROS is known for offering extra opening hours each day as part of its commitment to helping clients send and accept cash.
In a statement, the regional director for Western Union in Colombia said that cross-border payments were vital to the “health and safety” of their recipients.
Claudia Reyes said that this was especially true in areas of the country where people lived remotely.
“In Colombia, remittances are critically important in helping ensure health and safety for those who receive them, especially in remote communities across the country,” she said.
She explained that part of the goal of the new initiative was to boost convenience for customers and their loved ones.
“In Colombia and across Latin America we continue to expand our network, offering consumers more convenience, introducing new services, and allowing them to send money to their families and loved ones across the world,” she explained.
She also said that “full financial inclusion” was a clear goal of the company.
“We look forward to working with SuperGIROS to help bridge the gap to full financial inclusion for all Colombians,” she said.
Western Union is one of the world’s major financial services and international money transfer brands.
It has had a strong run in recent times when it comes to partnerships.
In March of this year, for example, it brought its services to South Korea for the first time through a partnership with a firm offering a mobile phone app.
