- Western Union Business Solutions partners with Hosei University
- Students helped design the platform
- GlobalPay can save students a lot of money in currency transfers and eliminates the headache of reconciling accounts on the side of universities and schools
Western Union will be offering a better payment process to Japanese Language Program (JLP) students at Hosei University. It will make it possible for them to pay expenses and their tuition through its GlobalPay product. According to Western Union Business Solutions, GlobalPay for Students does not have any hidden fees and users are also assured that their payments are sent in full and on time.
The international money transfer service developed the product to provide students with a price comparison tool so that they can save on expenses, according to reports. GlobalPay also allows them to lock-in currency exchange rates in advance. Western Union representatives say that the service also enables students to track the status of their payment through email or text.
“We are proud to partner with Hosei University and bring them on to the GlobalPay for Students platform”, said Haruhiko Ohashi, Western Union Business Solutions’ country manager for Japan. Ohashi added that: “GlobalPay provides students with simple payment options, all in one platform.” Aside from making tuition payments easier and cheaper for students, the product also helps academic institutions like Hosei University to track payments and to reconcile records.
Students were involved in the design process and in its development and evolution, according to Western Union representatives. Due to this, the platform offers a good experience for both students and the academic institutions that use it.
In an interview in Tokyo, Hosei’s Japanese Language Program’s manager Yuichiro Ehara said: “Since we introduced GlobalPay for Students for the fall semester of 2018, those who failed to make a payment have drastically declined.”
Other money transfer services are still being used by overseas students. In other parts of Asia such as the Philippines and India, wire transfer still dominates the tuition payments ecosystem. However, the success of Western Union Business Solutions’ GlobalPay will likely disrupt that ecosystem soon. The product is currently available to over 650 schools.
