Visa, a major provider in the global finance sector, has confirmed that it will provide a variety of services at the ongoing FIFA World Cup.

The firm, which is well known in the international money transfer sector, said that it will bring a payments network to the football tournament that will allow fans to make contactless payments.

This will be rolled out across eight stadiums and in the FIFA Fan Festival zone.

It will also be possible to use facial recognition technology to make payments, marking the first time such technology has been offered in Qatar. This has come about as a result of a collaboration between Qatar National Bank and POP ID, as well as Visa.

The technology will, however, only be available at some coffee shops in the area during a pilot phase.

It will also be possible to use contactless payments to travel on public transport in the area.

Visa has been named as FIFA’s Official Payment Technology Partner for a number of years, with the partnership dating back to 2007.

In a statement Dr. Saeeda Jaffar, Senior Vice President and Group Country Manager for GCC at Visa, said that part of the goal was to help improve the experience of football fans who were looking for ways to pay while they were in the country.

“As FIFA’s long-standing partner, Visa wants to give football fans from around the world the best way to pay in Qatar, while experiencing exciting new innovations such as the fusion of art, football and technology at Visa’s Masters of Movement venue,” she said.

“With thousands of contactless payment terminals, FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ promises to be the most payment-enabled FIFA tournament ever for the more than one million fans coming to enjoy the magic of football.”
