  • Thunes has confirmed that it will be working alongside Visa to offer a digital wallet service to small and medium-sized businesses.
  • The new service will harness the Visa Direct functionality to allow money to be sent to digital wallet providers across the globe.
  • “We are thrilled to collaborate with Thunes and help enable quick and simple access to the financial system to more customers around the world who may use digital wallets as their primary financial instrument,” said a spokesperson for Visa Direct.

Thunes and Visa, two well-known names in the international money transfer sector, have partnered to offer a new business-to-business payments service.

The new service will harness the Visa Direct functionality to allow money to be sent to digital wallet providers across the globe.

It is thought that almost 80 such providers will be included in the service, and that money will be able to be moved to well over a billion digital wallets in more than 40 countries.

The new system will work via integration, with Visa Direct being able to be built into the workflows of various organisations – including neobanks and even governments.

“From an agricultural worker in Bangladesh to a young professional in London who is looking to send money to family overseas, Visa strives to create more ways for individuals and SMBs to participate in the global economy,” said Ruben Salazar Genovez, Global Head of Visa Direct.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with Thunes and help enable quick and simple access to the financial system to more customers around the world who may use digital wallets as their primary financial instrument,” he explained.

For Thunes, meanwhile, CEO Peter De Caluwe said that the two firms will work together to combine their skills and “develop a new global era” when it comes to payments.

“Through the combined power of Visa’s scale and Thunes’ payment infrastructure, this collaboration has the potential to help develop a new global era for inclusive and accessible global payments.”
