  • Thunes, which is a leading provider of cross-border payments services, has announced a new partnership with buy now, pay later service Afterpay, also known as Clearpay.
  • Merchants who are affiliated with Thunes will now be able to offer the service to their customers in the UK and Europe.
  • “Buy now, pay later solutions also demonstrate significant potential for our merchants and partners: they provide opportunities for revenue growth, enhanced customer experience, and overall generate positive economic impact,” said a spokesperson for Thunes Collections.

Thunes, a major provider of cross-border payments services, has confirmed that it will be pairing up with a provider of buy now, pay later (BNPL) services.

The company will work alongside Afterpay, which trades in the UK as Clearpay – and which is increasingly becoming a well-known brand in the sector.

The move will mean that those merchants who sell via Thunes’ platform will be able to provide the BNPL options to their customers.

The new arrangement will be focused on markets in the UK and Europe.

In a statement, a senior figure at Thunes Collections said that the reasons that the partnership was positive were multi-dimensional.

Christophe Bourbier, who is the chief executive officer there, said that consumer demand was a big part of the picture.

“There are many reasons why this partnership is so important for Thunes: BNPL solutions are seeing accelerated adoption and strong consumer demand,” he said.

He added that “merchants and partners” of the firm had many reasons to want to go for these types of solutions.

“Moreover, buy now, pay later solutions also demonstrate significant potential for our merchants and partners: they provide opportunities for revenue growth, enhanced customer experience, and overall generate positive economic impact,” he said.

He went on to praise Clearpay, saying that it is a “market leader in this industry, offering easy-to-use solution, so we anticipate significant demand for their service from our merchants”.

For Clearpay, meanwhile, the country manager for France said that the company was aiming to find more and more value.

Aida Faivre said that it will do this on an international basis.

“In joining Thunes’ Payments ecosystem, we look forward to unlocking even more value for merchants and consumers across the globe,” she said.

She also pointed out that there was a distinct demographic side to the developments.

“As younger shoppers embrace BNPL as a more convenient and safe form of payment, Clearpay has proven to be the payment platform of choice for these customers who are adverse to using credit products,” she explained.

“Merchants too, have benefited greatly with improved basket conversion, brand exposure and lifts in average order value.”
