- Strike, a provider of digital payment services and fast money transfer, has announced that it will be launching a “Send Globally” feature in conjunction with Bitnob.
- The service will be made available to clients of Strike based in the US, press reports said – with Ghana, Nigeria and Kenya on the destination list.
- “With exorbitant fees to transfer funds in and out of Africa and incumbent providers halting services, payments companies are struggling to operate in Africa and people cannot send money home to their family members,” said a senior figure at Strike.
Strike, a provider of digital payment services and fast money transfer, has confirmed that it will partner with Bitnob to encourage payments between African countries.
Strike said it would launch its “Send Globally” feature in conjunction with Bitnob.
The service will be made available to clients of Strike based in the US, press reports said.
They will then be able to use this service to send money abroad to locations in Sub-Saharan Africa. One such place on the list is Ghana. Also represented are Nigeria and Kenya, which are among two of the largest economies on the continent.
According to press reports, transactions made over the platform will be free of charge.
A person using Strike from the US will be able to send money to the countries mentioned above for free.
Strike's Founder and CEO, Jack Mallers, announced the new partnership during the Afro Bitcoin conference in Ghana. He said that currently, there were problems for payment companies looking to operate on the African continent.
“Payment firms fund it difficult to run their activities in Africa fully. This has made it almost impossible for people to send money to their family in Africa,” he said.
In a broader press release, he added that fees were an issue – as were settlement speeds.
“High fees, slow settlement and lack of innovation in cross-border payments have negatively impacted the developing world,” he explained.
He went on to say that transferring cash abroad to family members was tricky at the moment.
“With exorbitant fees to transfer funds in and out of Africa and incumbent providers halting services, payments companies are struggling to operate in Africa and people cannot send money home to their family members,” he added.
And he said that Strike could help people get their US dollars across borders with greater ease – and more quickly, too.
“Strike offers an opportunity for people to transfer their US dollars easily and instantly across borders,” he explained.
