SentBe, an online money transfer provider in South Korea, has announced that it will be expanding its service into the US.
It is thought that the primary beneficiaries of the new service will be migrant workers who are based in the US. They are expected to be able to transfer US dollars to over 50 nations around the world more easily than before. The cost of doing this is expected to be lower than current market rates.
Alex Seong-Ouk, CEO at SentBe, said that there had been a lot of success in the area and that taking away barriers was a key focus for the company.
"SentBe has been widely used by migrant workers across Asia, and the success in the region is based on our emphasis on removing cross-border barriers and bringing convenience to customers," he said.
He added that the company was now taking its offer to a big market.
"We are bringing the same experience to the U.S., one of the largest financial markets in the world, and we will continue to expand our services to other markets, including Canada, Australia and countries in Europe,” he explained.
SentBe was set up back in 2015 and is primarily focused on transactions involving foreign exchange. In 2020 it was the first-ever South Korean financial technology firm to bring a personal remittance smartphone app to the market.
