A tweet from British fintech and money transfers firm Revolut has sparked speculation of integration with Apple Pay or that the US tech giant will be using a platform supported by Revolut. Revolut has dropped hints of its “HUGE” new development driving users and fintech experts to wonder what Revolut has up its sleeves.

On 18 June 2018, Revolut (@RevolutApp) tweeted: “Something HUGE is coming to the app that you have been requesting for months! It has something to do with paying with your phone… ;)”.

The digital banking alternative already offers cryptocurrency trading and is known for offering fast, secure and free international money transfers in over 120 countries. According to the fintech vine, releasing a mobile payment platform won’t be much of a surprise, but Revolut cosying up with the American tech giant may mean something bigger is currently in the works.

Apple Pay is reportedly set to launch its mobile payment app in the Czech Republic in the coming months. A site called SmartMania notes that it will be launched in August. SmartMania writes that Moneta Money Bank “issued a paper for investors which revealed a mention of the launch of Apple Pay in the Czech Republic” adding that: “If everything goes according to plan, the service could start in August this year.”

Users can already utilise Apple Pay with Revolut to pay money into the service, but it can’t be used for spending just yet. Apple Pay recently expanded its reach to the Ukraine in mid-May, an event that was announced by the Ukrainian Finance Minister in a Facebook post. The payment app also launched in Poland and Norway recently.
