- iFresh offers cross-border payments with Western Union
- Asian American grocery franchise will join network of 550,000 WU locations
Popular Asian American grocery chain iFresh Inc. has announced a new partnership with Western Union, a global leader in remittances and international money transfer services.
Under the agreement, iFresh retail locations will offer shoppers a range of Western Union services instore, including money transfers, money orders and bill pay. Customers will find it easier than ever to send money abroad or receive money from overseas in the same place where they shop for groceries.
According to a statement, Long Deng, Chairman and CEO of iFresh, said: “By working with Western Union to provide global payment services, iFresh is continuing to engage the local community by providing a fast and easy payment solution for customers, allowing them to send money in the United States and overseas to more than 200 countries and territories."
Headquartered in Long Island City, New York, iFresh is a leading Asian American grocery chain and online grocery retailer. The brand has nine brick-and-mortar stores across the East Coast, with three additional stores set to open this year. iFresh also has six iFresh-managed locations and two in-house wholesale operations in cosmopolitan areas with a highly concentrated Asian demographic. Online sales and an in-house delivery network further serve the unique needs of shoppers.
The brand caters primarily to Asian Americans, offering fresh, culturally significant produce, seafood and other grocery staples not typically found in mainstream US supermarkets. iFresh has developed strong relationships with a number of farms and growers of Asian fruits and vegetables, which means stores can offer consumers fresh, top-quality specialty produce at reasonable prices.
As of 2017, Western Union has a network of over 550,000 agency locations in 200 countries and territories, 150,000 ATMs and service kiosks, and the ability to make payments to billions of accounts worldwide. In 2016, Western Union facilitated 268 million consumer transactions amounting to more than $80bn.
