International money transfers infrastructure firm Fliqpay has released a bold ambition for its cross-border payment services in Africa.
The firm, which primarily targets business owners on the African continent, says that it wants to make the transfer of cash as “simple as sending a text message”.
Its customer base uses the service to pay its suppliers, especially those based beyond local borders.
It accepts many different currencies on both the sending and receiving levels, and works around the world in a number of major markets.
Back in Africa, it operates in some of the continent’s largest economies, such as South Africa and Nigeria.
It offers a whole dashboard of tools designed to improve the online money transfer experience.
The firm said in its recent press release that it plans to offer its application programming interface (API) to established financial services firms as well as other remittance services.
It also plans to offer the service to neobanks.
The firm, which is based in both the Canadian city of Toronto and the Nigerian city of Lagos, has a lot of backing.
It is an alumnus of a seed accelerator for start-ups called Techstars.
It claims to have processed transaction volumes of over US$20m.
The company is also overseen and licensed by a Canadian regulator, the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada.
In a press release, Fliqpay said that its overall goal is to make the sending of cash quick and easy.
It said that it wants to make the process as easy as sending an SMS from one mobile phone to the next.
“Sending global, cross-border payments should be easy, seamless, immediate and cost-effective,” it said.
“In order to scale up the kind of cross-border payment services that global businesses need, Fliqpay’s vision is simply to create a world where the transfer of value is immediate and simple as sending a text message,” it explained.
It went on to outline more about the changing face of the online money transfer industry – and how an increased focus on digital was changing the game for firms like these.
“Digitalisation has a fundamental impact on the way consumers and corporations do business with each other – and also on how they exchange money and information,” it said.
There are a large number of firms operating in the online money transfer sphere – and it can sometimes be hard to find the one that is right for you.
