  • Leading Spanish bank will now allow customers to use Apple Pay mobile platform
  • Partnership will support cross-border payments on iPhones, Macs and other Apple devices
  • Unique encryption method keeps personal info and payment details safe for online transactions

Apple Pay continues to expand its reach into the international payments sector, and its latest partnership with a major global bank was announced just days ago. Banco Sabadell, one of Spain's leading financial institutions, will now offer customers the ability to make purchases and send money abroad via the Apple Pay mobile platform.

More than six million Banco Sabadell Visa and Mastercard cardholders will be able to use Apple Pay from any Apple device, including iPhone SE or later, MacBook and Apple Watch. Customers will benefit from a seamless integration between their Banco Sabadell accounts and the Apple Pay service.

Enhanced security features work to protect online purchases and money transfer services. Apple Pay does not store users' credit or debit card information, instead assigning each device a unique account number that is subject to encryption and stored right in the device itself, not on outside servers.

Furthermore, Apple Pay transactions are validated using a specific, one-time security code to ensure payments on the platform are safe. Apple's Touch ID can also be used to maintain the integrity of transactions made through apps or mobile websites.

Officials at Banco Sabadell believe the partnership will bring plenty of value to customers.

Head of Financial Services Anna Puigoriol said: "Offering Apple Pay to our customers strengthens Banco Sabadell's commitment to continuous innovation, specifically in terms of mobile payments in this case."

The deal with Banco Sabadell brings Apple Pay's global availability to a total of 29 countries. Most recently, the platform introduced services in Poland and Norway.
